Dolphins

This is a short poem about a day I will never forget.
I was on the ocean and it was just before sunset.

As I looked out over the blue-green bay,
I saw some dolphins dancing a ballet.

It was so magical, like a fantasy;
Dolphins singing and frolicking, so happy and carefree.

The blue waters of the sea splashed with every leap and bound
As dolphins laughed and played in their oceanous playground.

It was the most glorious thing I have ever seen.
I will never forget the merriment of these mammals marine.

These wonderful sea creatures are the color, blue-gray.
They are not fish and not related to the shark or stingray.

Even though they have flippers, fins, and a tail,
They are actually mammals, just like the whale.

Dolphins and whales fall under the Animal Kingdom order, Cetacean.
They make clicking and whistling sounds which help them see by echolocation.

As mammals, their young are born live.
And in temperate and tropical waters, they thrive.

Dolphins are intelligent, sociable, and friendly.
Many dolphins live together in a large family.

There is the Common Dolphin, the Spotted Dolphin, and the Bottlenose.
(The Bottlenose Dolphin is the one the American best knows.)
